Tidying up my room and finding a piece of paper with 3 stamps of the same denomination, but different Monarchs, inspired me to share this information with you.💌Another cool thing about stamps is that these small pieces of paper show a lot of history on them and with them. History on the stamp and history on the postcard or envelope on which it's attached to.
1936 in Great Britain was known as the year of the 3 Kings!
Pictured with this post are 3 1/2d green stamps of George V, Edward VIII and George VI.

King George V died on 20th January 1936 (ascended to the British Throne in 1910) and was succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII, who abdicated on 10th December, in favour of his marriage to American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. Edward VIII, although Monarch from January-December 1936, was never crowned.
On December 11, 1936, good old Bertie (Prince Albert) became King George VI. His Coronation took place however, on 12th May 1937. That is why there are a lot of lovely British and British Empire/Commonwealth stamps that have a portrait of George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) that have the date 12th May 1937.
It seemed back in those days, marrying a divorcee was frowned upon! If a King Edward VIII was to remain on the throne, so many things would be different. The Royal Family would look a lot different, there may have been a different Monarch than Queen Elizabeth II today. The money that we handle and the Monarch's head on British stamps would be so different!
History is cool. Stamps are cool. Stamp collecting is cool!
